A World Water Council delegation on official visit to Japan to draw lessons from the recent disaster

26 April 2011

April 26, 2011 – The principle purpose of this trip, organised upon the initiative of the Japanese authorities, gathering public and private water organisations, is to draw lessons from the tsunami that recently devastated the Japanese north-east coast.

The World Water Council president and governors will then visit Rikuzen Takada, a prefecture located 50 km north of the Fukushima plant, in order to examine the damage caused to water and sanitation treatment facilities and reservoirs.
The UN expert group in charge of water disaster prevention will then meet on Thursday April 28.
A meeting with the Japanese Ministers of Foreign Affairs and of Equipment is also on the agenda of this official visit.
